The county of Fthiotida in one of the largest in Central Greece. It is situated to the north of both the counties of Fokida and Viotia. The historic Thermopiles pass lies 18 km. southeast of Lamia. The statue of Leonidas and the cenotaph of his 300 Spartans remind one of the heroic 480 BC battle. The famous since antiquity thermal springs of Thermopiles, bubbling quite near, have made an important resort out of the village. At a distance of 3 km, stands the historic bridge of Alamana. .There are also some interesting churches and museums in Lamia that are worth visiting. West of Lamia there is one of the most historical towns of Central Greece Ipati. Built on the slopes of Mt. Oiti, where the homonymous national Forest, among oak and plane trees and cypresses. Moni Agathonos (a monastery of the 15th century) lies at 7 km from Ipati and is considered one of the most illustrious monuments Apart from valuable historical relics the Museum of Oiti Natural History is also housed here. The ski centre of Parnassos is located to the south of Fthiotida, and is accessible through the very pretty mountain roads, that take you on a journey through the mountains, offering you lovely scenery and peace.

If you visit Fthiotida you will realize that it is not offered only for a relaxing time as the number of bars and clubs is rather great. The bars are very atmospheric and various all-day cafés offer from all kinds of beverages to light snacks during the day and turn up the volume of music at night. Beautiful beaches for all tastes. There are beaches with sand or pebbles, small bays protected by the wind, picturesque ports and many more locations ideal for relaxation, a swim in clear refreshing waters, fishing, scuba diving as well as excellent fish tavernas. Just after Larymna you will come across the village of Proskynas which as a beautiful beach with pine trees. You will also find pretty beaches near the small town of Malesina which is a few km off the highway. We also recommend the nearby bay of Agios Ioannis Theologos. The beaches here have spectacular waters and tavernas with fresh fish. Furthermore, the shallow sandy beach in the village Livanates is particularly popular. A bit further away (approx 1 km) you will find the pretty beach of Asproneri. We highly recommend visiting the beach of Kamena Vourla, one of the most popular summer resorts in central Greece. It is located on the southeast end of the Maliakos Gulf just below the green mountains of Knimi.
